Cinthya Mohr, Sr. UX Manager, Daydream Google

France-Lee Griggs, Program Manager, Daydream Google

Cinthya and France-Lee work on the Daydream team at Google focusing on using immersive technologies like VR and AR to make learning and teaching better. We’ve worked directly with teachers and students to build products like Classroom and Expeditions, co-designing experiences that can help them address real pain points as well as improve learning. Today, we would like to share some learnings from Expeditions, our first large-scale solution for VR in the classroom; as well as our latest updates on AR and other VR applications from our Daydream NYC team.

Jimmy Giliberti – WorldViz

Jimmy Giliberti is Director of Sales and Business Development at Worldviz and is here tonight to share their new virtual reality collaboration software called Vizible.  Vizible is targeted directly at the enterprise market and provides a detailed and easy to use collaboration platform for professionals from a wide variety of industries.

Scott Lang - Bergen County Academies

Scott Lang is the Interactive Design Instructor at the Bergen County Academies (BCA), a public magnet high school in northern New Jersey. Over the last 27 years, he has sought to provide his students access to the newest hardware and software, primarily in the areas of video production and animation, as part of his instruction at BCA and the United Nations International School. This presentation will look at how virtual reality is being used in a high school environment and how this might affect future instruction. For the last three plus years, students at BCA have been working with virtual reality technologies such as Oculus (DK1, DK2, Rift) and HTC Vive to develop immersive experiences. The primary project during this time has been "Virtual Ellis Island", a collaborative experience developed in partnership with the National Park Service and the Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island National Monument. As more tools have become available, we are now integrating these packages into our Visual Arts Academy curriculum.

Rod Recker – The Glimpse Group

Rod is CTO at The Glimpse Group, a company designed with the specific purpose of cultivating entrepreneurs in the VR/AR industry. Rod is also leading the efforts of Glimpse Consulting, which is looking to apply VR/AR technologies to a variety of markets including education. Rod will be speaking about a project funded by a global pharmaceutical company to create an engaging science experiment in VR for school students.

Jay Van Buren– Chronoquest

ChronoQuest — The Augmented Reality Timeline for education.

Children have a hard time comprehending the scope of history and that’s why we created Chronoquest. A 25 foot long continuous poster, it is designed to go on a classroom or school hall way wall and be available for every teacher and every student to share lessons about any topic because all of the content is in augmented reality.  This infinitely re-usable product is perfect for project-based and cross disciplinary learning, bringing history to life and dramatizing time using space.

George Lamb – Street Smarts VR

Street Smarts VR is dedicated to bringing low-cost, high-quality virtual reality (VR) training to state and local police departments. Our mission is to leverage the immersive power of VR to create police training experiences that improve officer judgment. At the same time, we provide analytics and data services that enable police management to understand and optimize their workforce. Our vision is a world where top-tier VR training is available to every police officer, resulting in safer cops and safer communities.

Hugh Seaton – Aquinas Training

Hugh Seaton of Aquinas Training will share their approach to VR for enterprise training. Based on the idea of “deliberate practice,” where learners plan - do - reflect, these short simulations allow managers and employees to focus in on one skill and practice it in isolation. For example, how to start a major presentation, or how to open a negotiation, etc. Called “Microsimulations,” Aquinas Training is rolling out a series of these in the fall, in cooperation with a number of key clients. Hugh will also briefly touch on issues of adoption readiness in Enterprise, and how they are managing this.

Special Featured Demo's - Gates of Nowhere by Symmetrical

Gates of Nowhere is a Fantasy/Horror adventure in Virtual Reality for HTC Vive. You'll be projected in a fantasy dungeon and start your adventure inside an abandoned dark prison. You don’t know what happened and you must find the way out exploring huge dungeons filled with surprises, often dangerous.  We will also be giving away free Steam keys for (5) lucky winners!!!

UnityNYC Usergroup - BitDuo

BitDuo was the project awarded "Best in Jam" at the UnityNYC VR Jam held last month.  It explores the idea of letting a player experience the "inside" of a game in VR while someone else is playing it, and was demoed to the public at PlayNYC.  It arrives at NYVR this month for one more showing, along with a few of its developers.
