We have time for member demos, hiring and personal announcements, and lightning talks; just let us know when you get there and we'll give you the floor.

MEETUP AGENDA

6:00pm - Welcome / Networking
6:45pm - Say What?: Enabling Voice Applications with Apollo – Alim S. Gafar

It's easier than ever today to build voice-driven applications. Google Voice, Microsoft Cortana, and Apple SiriKit are among the top APIs for building applications accessible on smart speakers, phones, and tablets. But the undisputed big dog is AWS Alexa. In this presentation, Alim will demonstrate how Alexa applications can take advantage of Meteor Group's Apollo to simplify integrations with external data sources. At the end of this talk you'll learn:

* important terms and concepts used when discussing voice applications
* how to design a simple voice application
* how to build and consume an AWS Lambda service
* how to build an AWS Alexa skill
* how to configure and consume an Apollo GraphQL endpoint

Alim S. Gafar is a technology evangelist specializing in voice, blockchain, AI, mobile, and JavaScript. He consults at DIRA Market Dynamics, a market discovery and development firm. You can reach him at @alimgafar on Twitter.
