We are back with the second event in our Health Tech Startup series at Knotel in Midtown Manhattan (with free food and drinks)! This event is focused on the topic of “Fundraising for your Startup”. We have invited well-known figures in the NY health tech space to come speak about how to get funding for your health tech startup:

Hello NY Health Tech Startup members! After the success of our first Meetup in April focused on “Founders’ Stories”, we are back to present to you the second event in our Health Tech Startup series! This event is focused on the topic of “Fundraising for your Startup”. The event is catered to health tech startup founders, people looking to start their own health tech company, investors, and anyone else interested in learning more about the fundraising process for a health tech startup.

We are excited to have Mubeen Malik (VP Telepsychiatry Operations @ Genoa/Co-Founder of 1DocWay), Adam Grossman (Partner at Deerfield Management), and Andrew Elkind (Ventures Investment Team @ Northwell Ventures) join us for this great discussion. Karen Griffith Gryga

Chief Investment Officer, Dreamit (Moderator)

Karen Griffith Gryga is an experienced venture capitalist, investor and entrepreneur with over 20 years of startup and emerging growth company experience. Karen is Chief Investment Officer for DreamIt. Karen is also co-founder of Dreamit Health and founder of the DreamIt Athena program which focuses on female founders.  

Prior to her entrepreneurial experience, Karen was a Founder and Partner of Liberty Venture Partners, a Philadelphia based venture fund established in 1997 with $150 million under management.  Prior to Liberty, Karen was a Managing Director of Philadelphia Ventures Inc., a privately held venture capital management firm with a family of corporate and institutional limited partnerships exceeding $100 million of committed capital.   

Karen has also been Executive Director of MAG, The Mid-Atlantic Angel Group as well as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Context Capital Partners. Ms. Gryga began her career at TRW Inc., a multi-billion dollar conglomerate, in their Federal Systems Division as a software developer.  

Ms. Gryga is a frequent speaker on the subject of venture capital and entrepreneurialism in both professional and academic communities.  Karen holds a MBA in decision analysis from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania (with Distinction).  At the same time as Wharton, Karen obtained a Masters in Computer Science from the Moore School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.  Karen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in computer science (Phi Beta Kappa) from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. 

Mubeen Malik

VP Telepsychiatry Operations @ Genoa/Co-Founder of 1DocWay 

Mubeen Malik is Vice President of Telepsychiatry Operations at Genoa, a QoL Healthcare Company. In this role he builds scalable implementation and client management processes that keep pace with the business unit’s growth. Mubeen was formerly Co-founder and COO of 1DocWay, a venture-backed technology company that expanded access to healthcare across rural America and that was acquired by Genoa. Prior to this he spent some time in corporate development and investment banking. 

Mubeen was named to the 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 list as a Social Entrepreneur. He holds a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Genoa Telepsychiatry is the nation’s largest provider of outpatient telepsychiatry services. With 200+ providers spanning 27 states, GT partners with community clinics, health plans and hospitals to increase access to psychiatric care. GTs goal is to build programs that meet the needs of the communities served, ranging from child psychiatry to medication assisted treatment program, and from outpatient to inpatient and residential.

Andrew Elkind

Ventures Investment Team, Northwell Ventures 

Andrew Elkind is a member of Northwell Ventures (“NV”). Prior to joining NV, Andrew worked in Cambia Health Solutions’ corporate venture group, evaluating acquisitions and investments, as well as helping portfolio companies. He started his career in PwC’s Deals Advisory practice, following his time as a gymnast at the Olympic Training Center and member of the senior national team. 

Andrew graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Economics and holds a MS in Accountancy from the University of Denver. Additionally,  Andrew is a CFA Charterholder and CPA.

Adam Grossman

Partner, Deerfield Management 

Adam Grossmanis a Partner on the Private Transactions team at Deerfield. Most recently, Adam was the Senior VP, Corporate Development and Operations at The Advisory Board Company. Previously, Adam was a Principal at Health Evolution Partners, where he co-led the health care services team and was involved with all aspects of sourcing, investing, and managing portfolio company investments. Prior to HEP, Adam managed Aetna’s venture capital fund and direct private equity investments, and before that he served as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Before joining McKinsey, Adam was on the founding team of PrincipalCare Incorporated. He began his career at ImageAmerica. Adam received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his AB from Dartmouth College.
