This month we will be joining the Tech London Advocates - Smart Cities group to run an unconference.
The Smart Cities Unconference 2017 is an official event of the TLA Smart Cities group. The TLA Smart Cities group are advocates for the design and delivery of user-focused Smart Cities which meet the diverse range of needs of those who live, work and socialise in London. For too long 'smart cities' have focused on technology solutions, rather than understanding the people they are built to serve.
The primary focus of the Unconference will be on what smart cities are and how they can create, contribute and support social change. We want to better understand the actions we need to take to increase positive impact in our communities so that the promise of smart cities are delivered. Your ideas and actions will be feed into the main conference, and help us to set the goals for the TLA Smart Cities and the wider smart cities communities in London and internationally.
Why a Smart Cities Unconference?
Conferences are a great place for hearing from leaders in the field of smart cities, however they are organised in a way that is less participatory that doesn’t maximise collaboration and knowledge of the participants.
The TLA Smart Cities Unconference will be an open and safer space for us to exchange thoughts, experiences, ideas, and learn and discover together what a truly smart city is about. Our sessions will be participant driven, drawing on the interests and expertise of the attendees in a way that encourage dialog, creativity, idea exchange, and collaboration.
Can I participate?
Whether you’re a newbie to the "smart cities" world or seasoned veteran, your contribution to the discussion is essential. We encourage representatives from academia, civil society, the media, start up, representatives of communities (Generation Y, Refugees, Senior Citizens, People with Special Needs, Women, Start Ups, etc.), the public and private sector to come along!
As well as a diverse range of organisations and user needs, we're looking for everyone from designers, to developers, product owners to policy makers to share their expertise and help become advocates for our more inclusive, user-focused smart London.
