Following a break in August for holidays, our monthly meetup returns in September with sessions on Microservices and Serverless

Session Details:

•  Microservice Plumbing
Speaker :

Glynn Bird - Developer Advocate - Cloud Data Services IBM Watson and Cloud Platform

"Microservices" is a word that means lots of things to lots of people. Building systems as a collection of microservices instead of large monolith can make your IT systems more maintainable and scalable. We'll explore ways in which microservices can communicate and how work and configuration can flow through the system. We'll also look at the latest microservice buzzword: "serverless" computing.

• Building a Serverless Data Pipeline

Speaker :

Lorna Mitchell - Developer Advocate for IBM Cloud Data Services IBM Watson and Cloud Platform

Bringing data in from external sources, handling updates to databases and notifications to external systems: this talk is a case study of building a simple stackoverflow dashboard application in a fun and practical way.   Come to this session for an overview of how we built a serverless pipeline to pull in data and serve as the backend behind the stackoverflow dashboard Lorna built for her team of Developer Evangelists.  With data coming in from an external API plus updates to the data after it has arrived, there were some design decisions to make.  Lorna will share those decisions and talk about the ones they have iterated on and might alter in the future.  This talk is suitable for developers of all technical stacks.
