Twitter hashtag: #LinuxingInLondon
At Linuxing in London we are exceedingly happy to present a Docker workshop from the international speaker and the renowned container expert, Elton Stoneman.
Please, please read, fully, before attempting to sign up.
NB: Blokes/men, please read and re-read.
Initially, places for this event will be allocated to members of women's groups to improve the gender balance, then later on it will be opened up to all.
If you are a bloke/man, then please wait your turn, or you risk being put on the waiting list :)
If you are a member of a MeetUp women's group, please join the waiting list and you will be let through.
Join this hands-on workshop to learn all the core concepts and get practical experience with Docker.
Docker is a platform for packaging, distributing and running software applications.
We'll use a simple demo application - a Node.js web app with a SQL Server database. We'll walk through several iterations for Dockerizing the app, finishing with a set of production-grade Docker images. Along the way you'll learn the Dockerfile syntax and best practices, see how to package web applications and databases, and understand how Docker works on Linux and Windows.
This is a hands-on session, which will be provided in a lab environment.
Bring your laptops, but you don't need any software except a browser.
The workshop’s contents will all be on GitHub, and we will be using Play with Docker.
Seats are limited to 40, at moment.
18:00 Doors open.
18:15 Basic set-up of laptops.
18:20 Introduction by Brian Byrne.
18:30 Hands-on workshop with Elton Stoneman, part 1.
19:15 Quick break.
19:30 Hands-on workshop with Elton Stoneman, part 2.
20:15 Community slot and raffle.
• Bring a fully charged laptop and a working browser.
NB: To ensure everyone comes and no seats are wasted a confirmation email will be sent closer to the date, please reply swiftly or you will be placed on the waiting list.
We are taking this approach to make certain spaces at this limited workshop are not wasted (people booking a slot then not turning up on the evening).
Check your email regularly and reply with your MeetUp name too.
If you can't attend please change your MeetUp RSVP.
Failure to do so (saying you're going then not turning up) will result in you being put on the waiting list for future key events.
There will be our regular free raffle :)
Don't forget: At Linuxing in London we make an extra effort to ensure women and members of women’s groups can participate and try to equal out the gender imbalance in technology. Women should just sign up and stay on the waiting list, you will be let through.
• Docker has generously offered to provide light refreshment on the evening.
Important: for workshops and training events, the MeetUp bookings take precedence. Only those confirmed on MeetUp should attend.
Please sign up at Skills Matter as well for health and safety reasons.
