In 2015 the Government announced a £100m Intelligent Mobility Fund for collaborative research and development into connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technologies to be administered by the newly formed Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV). In 2015/2016, £20m was invested from that fund into 21 R&D projects and feasibility studies following proposals made into the first Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Research & Development (CAV1) Competition, designed to stimulate developments in autonomous vehicles and connected transport systems. In 2016/17, CAV2 saw a further £69m was invested (£38m of which from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund) in a further 27 projects including several large SAE4 demonstration projects.
As announced on 24th July, the third £25m Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Research & Development (CAV3) competition, being funded from Government's £100m Intelligent Mobility Fund, will open 25th July 2017. This event will be an opportunity to hear about the scope of the third competition in more detail and the process for applying as well as an opportunity to meet with CCAV and Innovate UK for 1:1 discussions about the competition. The event will also feature case studies from the earlier rounds, short pitches from companies promoting their services/expertise and it will provide an opportunity to network and develop partnerships for the competition.
